A report released recently said that gambling and banking are two industries that currently lead in the jersey sponsorship deals.
According to the same report, these gambling sponsorships are a result of France’s decision to liberalize its land-based and online casino market. France opened the doors last March lifting the state’s monopoly on gambling and giving the players the opportunity to choose from various online casinos. Now the sports-betting and horse-racing industry is open for all its competitors.
The on-going development in the marketing of jerseys is present especially in the six top European football leagues: Eredivisie (Netherlands), Serie A (Italy), 1st Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France), Primera División (Spain) and Premier League (England). One of the biggest deals was made in Spain’s Primera División where Real Madrid and Bwin made a deal worth 23 million euros.
