100€ Bonus from Bet365 Casino!Norway and Sweden are two countries in Europe with state owned online gambling monopolies. Recently, the local media reported that both countries are facing online gambling problems. A survey carried out by the state gambling monopoly of Norway revealed the fact that 4% of Norwegians over the age of 18 gamble at offshore gambling sites.
The Culture Minister of Norway stated that tougher measures will be brought in, including ISP filtering to block foreign internet gambling operators including both online casinos and poker rooms. The proposal is not popular among the liberal section of the media. The publication Liberalen opined that introducing ISP filters amounted to internet censorship. Liberal politicians also do not agree with these measures.
On the other hand, Sweden’s state online and land gambling monopoly has reported decline in net gaming revenues for the second consecutive year. The company’s CEO explained this as a result of the measures taken by the state-owned company to curtail problem gambling. The attempt to achieve the right balance between increasing gambling revenues and imposing measure to prevent problem gambling has led the company in this situation. Thereby, in order to remain competitive, the board should allow the gambling monopoly to expand their range of online casino games.
