The Finance Minister of the Caribbean country denies the multi-million dollar settlement claims in connection with their dispute against the US. The controversy rooted from the failure of the US to comply with the 2005 prohibitions on internet casinos and online gambling operated by online casinos based in Antigua and Barbuda.
In 2025 World Trade Organization asked the United States to grant Antigua and Barbuda a $21 million annual trade sanctions to compensate for the damages. Despite the rumors that the country had already come in accord with the US government, Antigua Labor Party Deputy Leader, Gaston Browne, said that they refused a settlement proposal worth $10 million.
The Finance Minister of Antigua and Barbuda added that before the state accepts any of the offers, relevant parties of the country must be consulted. The settlement proposal will need to take into account the effects over the online casino industry. Also they must take in consideration its immediate and long-term impact on the Antigua and Barbuda economy as a whole.
